When an owner says their car is a pro touring car, what does this mean.  :shruggy:
FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

Budnicks

Pro-Touring, My impression is a car with many contemporary modern performance capable upgrades/mods, modern engine with performance enhancements, modern performance suspension, larger diameter, brakes wheels & tires etc., lots of billet, carbon fiber & aluminum bolt-on goodies, maybe even some stereo garb & cages sometimes, all upgraded with performance parts so that it can be driven or maybe even compete regularly, on the highway, auto cross & the Power-Tour type deals, it's like a resto-rod/mod with an anal retentive complex on steroids....LOL... I'm Just kidding, I don't want any hate mail, from Pro-Touring guys, I do like them also.... Here are a couple of example non of them mine unfortunately

 my :Twocents:
I would definie pro-touring as the modifying of a car with better than stock equipment including all the things listed
Handling
Braking
Safety
Accelleration
Driveability
Reliability
Comfort

My list would include all aspects of performance: bigger wheels don't always mean better or pro-touring just adding larger wheels puts you in the restomod group. insanely large wheels puts you in group all your own.   :eek2:

Some would say you have to actually race your car on a track to be a pro-touring type car   :drive:

Simply said; It is a style, it implies performance, actual or percieved...   :coolgleamA:

Depends on the owner....haha. :smilielol: :smilielol:
To some it may just mean it's got "Dubs"......and to others it may mean it's basically a modern car with an old body.... :girlfight:
As with everything automotive....there are way too many "labels" floating around and many "interpretations" of each....

I just call my car a Charger..........

I am building my car as a "Pro-Touring" car I guess. Because thats what I plan to do with it. Tour stuff. Power tour will be my first adventure. It should be fun to drive, handle, brake, comfortable (already is anyhow) and super reliable. electric fans for traffic, modern parts such as Saginaw pumps, and Toyota mini alternators, Dakota mini starters and the likes so parts can be had at any store if need be. Good electronic ignition. Modern rubber and the wheels to support them.

That's my take on them.
JUNKTRAVELER: all I've seen in this thread is a bunch of bullies and 3 guys that actually give a crap.

I would agree with this almost 100% ---  the racing on a track thing...   eh - that has no bearing on "pro-touring" to me...     but it is a great place to find out how the modifications work together.

IMO Pro Touring is about improving these old cars with modern amenities and improving the vehicle overall in the categories listed above.        :2thumbs:

Depends on the owner....

This is pretty close to the truth. To some it is simply a lowered stance with 18" wheels. thedodgeboys definition is what a lot of the pro touring guys would agree to.

Look at it this way, what defines pro street? Just big n littles, a blower, a cage, or more? Pro touring has been around long enough to suffer the same malady.

Ghoste

I think so too.  Pro Street started off being more about performance gains and became a "look" and I think the same is happening (happened?) to Pro Touring.  Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it if it turns you on though.

This should be example #1 69 Hemi Roadrunner "Roadkill"

as someone once mentioned on this board PRO TOURING = ONLY I (OWNER) CAN AFFORD IT NO ONE ELSE

If you think the car below was pro-touring, you need to research it.

It's was just plain bad ass old school brute force. Race tires on 15 inch rims, 440, 833 4 speed, 2.76 gears.

That car is bad ass.  I like the A pillar moldings he put on it.  So much so that I installed a set on my 68 Charger.  Amazing at how much wind noise was cut down.  Sorry for the side track.

True. Your opinion varies with you own definition (and the definition most-recognized)  :icon_smile_big:

Here's a quote from the Hot Rod article: "The details on this car are beyond anal, but the basic package is brutally simple and, compared to typical high-end cars, low-buck. The engine doesnt have the good heads or killer rods, but it works and holds together just fine. The suspension uses stock parts, no titanium hubs or brakes the size of trash can lids."

This car is ANTI-pro touring, which is why I like it so much.

It's just a photo of a cool car, I liked, pro-touring doesn't really fit any specific category, let alone my lame explanation of what it is, it is just an OPINION nothing more & mine too boot...
