Good/Bad years for a 440 block?

I was curious if early (67-70) 440 blocks are any better than later year blocks for building a 500-600 horsepower stroker? Also, what would be considered a good price for a usable one? A machine shop here in town wants $350 for a clean one ready to be bored. Just need to know is that a fair price? Thanx.

Ps. The price is fair.....but i would want sonic check #'s before building it. The cylinder wall thickness on the thrust side is the critical dimension you're looking for  ;)

the price of a block is totaly on where you are in the U.S.  I just picked up two 440 long blocks with all tin and bracketry for 150 bux each, but I am in the midwest.

Isn't $150 a little high for a later "low nickel/thinwalled" casting ?

So how much was the 230 block ? :drool5:
