Can't get battery to charge...

Hey I'm having trouble on my 66 w the charging,the wirings rigged from the previous goober so something's not right-I put a good charge on the battery,which is good ,I had it checked and it's only good for about 4 starts on this 318.The alternators good,had it checked also.I know the wirings pretty simple on em so can somebody describe to me the route from the alt To the battery like I'm 5 yrs old? A wiring diagram would work but someone posted me one once but it wasn't readable...Thankee!

wire from ignition switch goes to the spade terminal on the drivers side of regulator

wire from passenger side of regulator goes to spade terminal on alternator (you should only have one spade on alternator along with large battery terminal)

battery terminal on alternator goes to starter relay on fire wall

Sounds good,I've got an old chiltons manual,it's amazing how they go so far and then just leave you hanging,send me the info on what I need to do and getting a little closer to payday I might partake-I've just about blown my budget on a new cam swap this week-thanks

Dont forget to check the grounds if alt or regulator is not properly grounded it wont charge

It's mounted to engine brackets-is there another way it's grounded?

Ive seen where guys had powder coated the spacer and alt mounting bolt and couldnt not establish a ground.My test for regulator and alt case ground .Is 12 volt testlight clip on end to battery+ and touch pointed end to alt case or regulator.And light should light.   :Twocents:You should have 2 grounds  one at intake manifold front bolt and rear pass side from firewall to block /head

Make sure one of your field terminals is grounded to the case.

When u say 2 grounds do u mean the engine grounds that all motors require because I have no grounds-car came w/o and I didn't think of it,also I have 2 field wires do u mean put a wire from either one and just ground it to its own case?

There are 2 spade connections back of alternator,one at bottom and one at 3:00,I'm hooked on the bottom one is that correct?

if you have 2 spade connections on back of alternator, and your car is a 66, you have the wrong alt. You should only have one spade terminal and then the battery lug

If you have the 70 up dual field alt just make up a jumper wire and ground one of the fields
.And your set for 60-69 charging system which used 1 field wire darkgreen or blue. You do have the black box regulator.And not the flat 2 pin type 70-up.which has green and blue field wires
