if i shift manually anyways, do i really need the attachment from the carb to the tranny? i dunno what its called but do i need it lol

Jon Smith

yes, unless you have a manual valve body
it regulates line pressure you'll kill the tranny without it

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is deathcharger71 talking about?  ???
Mighty Mean Mexican Mopar

Jon Smith

does he need a kickdown linkage

andy74

the throttle presure rod, that goes from your carb to the trans linkage,on an auto controls the line pressure and shift points-run with out and you will break stuff in a short period of time

got it, my new tranny is gonna be a manual valve body but i guess until then ill keep the kickdown on there. does anyone know what cars the A-999 came in? wrangler, cherokee...? what years? it seems to be a much more hard to find tranny than the 727, but would be an easier swap for my 904, i could find one in a junk yard if i knew what car it came in and what year. one more question, could i get a 4 speed tranny with a manual valve body? and which tranny would it be?

You mean the A-518 overdrive auto with lock-up (follow-on development of the A-727), right...not the A-833 four-speed?  You would have to also get a lock-up converter for that tranny and I don't think there is as much availability for custom specs on those pieces as there is on the non lock-up 727 gear.

The A-999 was introduced in '74 for use behind the 360 so you'll find them in just about any 360 powered passenger car after that (unless it has a 727).
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John, wasn't the A-999 still a three-speed?  I thought the A-518 (46RH) was an A-999 with lock-up converter and the extra overdrive gear set?  ???
