Destroyed '70 Barracuda

A 65-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda on Del. 896 (Summit Bridge Road) in Glasgow and slammed into a pole, police said.

The victim's name was not released.
The crash was reported at 4:39 p.m. on Summit Bridge Road, 400 feet north of Sweethollow Drive, said state police Sgt. Paul Shavack.
The driver was heading north at a high rate of speed on Summit Bridge Road when he lost control of his car, Shavack said.
The vehicle rotated 90 degrees clockwise, veered off the right side of the road and slammed into a utility pole, Shavack said.
The victim was thrown from the car, and the vehicle split into three sections, with the engine block traveling 100 feet from the point of impact, he said.
The utility pole was sheared in half.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prior to the incident, the car ran out of gas on the right shoulder of Summit Bridge Road, south of Howell School Road, and family members brought the victim gasoline.
After he was gassed up, the driver took off at a high rate of speed and crashed, Shavack said.
The northbound roadway was closed at Howell School Road for three hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was cleared.

Feel bad for the family.

Granted these cars arent bullet proof like newer cars, but he had to be going quite fast to rip the whole front clip off.

Looks like the car had rear cage in it...wonder if a full cage would have changed things?

Poor family having to go through this. Wonder what was the cause.
People panic when the throttle gets stuck open when all you have to do is turn off the key.

looks like he had his foot in it hard  , or the throttle jamed open    that amount of damage  !!
see the shifter  position , wonder if it moved in the impact , or guessing  its a reverse valve body in the trans & its in Drive /3 ,

Was thinking the same thing TT, if it wasnt moved due to the impact id say its safe to assume it was a RMVB tranny...even with my granny gears the fastest you could get in first was around 40ish before you would run out of motor.

I've wrecked a car at WOT due to a stuck throttle and it's not fun, especially if there isn't much time between realizing it's stuck and disaster.... It's amazing how the last thing you think of is to turn the key off (I bet it wont happen again however being through it once).. I hit the concrete barrier so hard that oil splashed out of the breather and caught fire on the headers. I was lucky as I only had a lap belt on and had a small steel steering wheel. Only after I ran out from the car and looked back at it on fire, still stuck at 7K it dawned on me, so I ran back and shut it off. Had the road been clear the outcome might have been better.  

That Cuda looked to be pretty built so I don't doubt that it was a quick car. A few more details on what happened would piece the puzzle together better. Was it a stuck throttle or the driver being reckless    It's sad for the family, especially if they witnessed the crash. I sure feel for the family ,the driver, and also a sad loss for the Cuda.

Thats incredible. I was just looking at the pics and it looks as if even the rear brake rotor is broke, you can see it in the top five holes in the wheel, but not the bottom two. I was also amazed that the hood looks to be in good condition still. It's a sad deal and as far apart as that car is, I doubt they will ever be able to tell what the cause was

The engine looks super fresh! There isn't a oil stain or any discoloration any where on it. I can't help but wonder if he had just finished building the car and had the throttle hang open.

I sure hope the family member who brought him the gas didn't witness the impact. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who witnessed it and all who are dealing with the loss of their family member and friend.

Rotor isn't broken, the lower two spoke holes are packed with dirt.

I hate that for the victim and family.

No doubt that was one hell of a powerful car, and man what a hit. There is just something intriguing about the picture with the engine just laying on the ground looking cleanly plucked; I keep going back and looking at it.
