How important is the length of your shaft?

My '70 road runner (440+6, 4 speed, Dana) calls for a 50.39" (going by memory right now) long driveshaft. My original driveshaft has a dent in it and I would like to replace it. I found a driveshaft which is 50.90" long. Would the driveshaft being 1/2" longer than called for cause a problem? If so, what kind of problems? The longer driveshaft is for a Charger or Coronet w/ 440, 4 speed and Dana. Why the different lengths betweem the Dodge and Plymouth?

The Plymouth had a shorter wheelbase.  A 1/2 inch longer one might not be an issue as there is some wiggle room there, but personally I would rather have one the correct length.  Too long can have problems with binding up and the cost of having a correct one custom made are pretty reasonable in most locales.
