I can see how they got the idea for casting Cooter, Uncle Jesse, Daisy, and others.  I like the low budget 70's films.

Check out "Fear is the Key" on youtube. I don't know how to post a link. It has Barry Newman/Kowalski driving a red Ford Torino running from the fuzz. 13 minute video with carnage.

The Dukes came directly from a 1975 movie that the TV show's creators had made.  It was called "Moonrunners".  It had a pair of nephews, an "Uncle Jesse", and even a "Sheriff Roscoe Coletrane".

"Moonshine County Express" was a similar theme, though.  The whole thing was a regular thing to see in Hollywood at the time.  Souped-up muscle cars, moonshiners & amateur racers, etc.  "Dukes" is just the most successful and well-remembered one of them.

There was also "Eat my Dust". An orange Camaro stock car with turbine wheels, rollcage, and pushbar running from the cops. They pitched a 68 Charger off a cliff in this movie.

"Eat My Dust" is really "Grand Theft Auto 2". Ron even stated that.

Waylon Jennings was also the 'Balladeer' in the movie Moonrunners. The complete movie is on youtube, broken up into different parts.
