another carb question

I've been thinking a lot lately about the carb I'm going to buy. Would this work: a carb with a nice main body (QFT or Proform) with annular boosters on the primaries (to increase throttle response) and downleg boosters on the secondaries (so that at higher rpm the boosters won't pull too much fuel as associated with annular boosters). This should effectively work like a spread bore carb - smaller primary venturies (annular boosters reduce cfm) and larger secondaries (downlegs).

or is my thinking totally off? I wanna use a QFT SS-780 VS as a starting point.

Never tried different boosters front & rear, not sure if it would act like a spread bore or not, I don't think it will have the mileage of a true Spead Bore, maybe call Proform, Quickfuels, Holley or who ever your brand choice is, maybe run it by them, good luck... They do make or use to anyway, a Holley Spread Bore DP carburetor that's 850cfm, with 350cfm front primaries & 500cfm rear secondaries, not sure if any aftermarket companies make them though...   Sounds interesting, let us know the outcome...

Looks like a Holley 4160 to me. never messed with 'em & can't see paying that much for one.  :Twocents:

The Holley 4165 & 4175 are Spread-bore carbs. never used one myself, but owners of the few that I have re-built swear by 'em.
