Hey guys, just wondering what type and how much lube a 8 3/4 suregrip spring style (not clutch type) takes? also do you fill until it comes out of the hole? and do i need the friction modifier? from what i remember seeing 80W90 is the oil? and while i'm asking all these questions, how do i know for sure i have a spring type 8 3/4? it is a 489 case, just wondering if there is a way to identify it and not rely on the previous owners comments? also , can i pump it out or do i really have to crack the case open? roughly how much fluid does it take? ???

4 US pints of 80W90 gear oil will be close.  Yes, add a little friction modifier and when it just dribbles out the filler hole, it's full.  As to the Sure Grip unit, if it's the original one, then yes, it's a cone (spring)type.  Without opening it though, you can't really know for certain.
