Fiat decides to bring back the Viper redesigned for 2012. The article says it was released last November. But that has to be wrong as it was news on the radio today.

Well that's a helluva lot better news than their one to eliminate "Hemi" from their lexicon.  :2thumbs:

The announcement was last November.

This was the unveiling at the dealers meeting in Florida.

Yeah there's a really good article in the current Road and Track where they talk about a 2013 release date... Ralph Gilles will pen the new design, and since he's a Viper owner and lover who's American, by way of Canada, I think Viper is in good hands...

This Charger right here is a one of none, that means none before it, none to come.

2 years with no viper... i wonder who will break their record at the "ring" in lieu of its absence?  You know someone will.

StreetLegalTV just did a story on this. You can read it by clicking below:

Here's a snipet:
Road & Track reported some interesting facts, like how Viper production dropped from an annual production of around 2,000 cars to just over 650 cars in 2009. A sharp decline, helped in no small part by Chrysler's bankruptcy. Road & Track  asserts that while there will be no 2011 Viper, there will be a 2012 concept car based on the old Viper, and perhaps even using the same 8.4 liter V10 engine.

Porsche just beat the record in the newest light weight GTR2, 14 seconds faster around the ring then their last model..

Brock Samson

oh, an by the way,..  the Vette ZL-1 held the record prior.

miller

There is a possibility that it will be a re-skinned Alfa Romeo 8C.

OR

It could be based on the Mercedes Benz SLS, which was originally suppose to be the viper in the first place.

Sad.  That would be a case of not letting the Viper be a Viper but I suppose it's better than selling off the "brand".

wrong on both counts Miller... go read the looooong post on the subject at allpar.. I'm done trying to correct all the misinformation posted over here..

While we don't have any NEW information, we did just publish a really cool recap of all the current rumors and questions pertaining to the new 2012 Viper here:
http://www.streetlegaltv.com/news/sorting-through-the-mess-2012-viper-rumors/

We also scoured Allpar for any new revelations as well and found nothing pertaining to the confirmation of any chassis as to date.

Here's some pics of the fabled Alfa Romeo 8C (and race versions)

i figured i'd just continue this discussion rather than reinvent the wheel...  :shruggy:

ALLPAR.com has an interesting new page combining all the photo-shops and info gleaned so far...

I especially liked this quote..

A 2013 Viper prototype was driven into the September 2010 dealer meeting, to the amazement of everyone there. It is apparently a big styling change which was apparently universally esteemed by those who saw it. The looks are more upscale, and the product committee took just five minutes to unanimously approve the car. One observers said it was "dramatic and awesome."

I thought I read somewhere recently a interview with Ralph Gilles where he says there are 1 or 2 mules running around Detroit with the Viper old body skin but the new suspension and drive line being evaluated.

Brock Samson

Maybe,  :shruggy:  but more likely it's at the Nuremberg Ring. Also i liked the part that said there's a "possible" V-8 (Hemi?) engined version based on the FIREPOWER! that the Germans had nixed a couple years back. That's maybe the one running over potholes in Mich.
The Krauts didn't want anything coming from Auburn Hills to compete with their vehicles - which was why all MOPARs suffered from de-contenting and a lack of updating. Well that cat's now out of the bag and the new Grand Cherokee is giving their ML fits.
  & I love it...   :nana:

with the new CAFE requirements coming in 2015 and 2025 i don't see V8's or 10's around for too long
one article i read was already quoting auto execs as saying the top of the line cars would be V6's very soon (and i don't mean Buick Grand National V6's either)
