I need to take my instrument cluster out of my 68 charger. I unhooked the speedo cable...took out the face plate screws. Seem like it is catching on something. Any advice would be great!

terrible one

Most likely the ammeter wires, they are held on with nuts and won't just "unplug" like the rest of the cluster wiring.

I can not move it ahead enough to get behind it. I seems "stuck" in the center.

Is it getting stuck on the steering column? It's often necessary to drop it a couple inches to gain clearance. So have you disconnected the ammeter and everything else yet? A lot of it can be accessed from behind/ under the dash if you are flexible enough.

koshe

I am not that flexible anymore! It seems as though the speedo in still connected....but its not. Not hitting the colum but who knows.

There's a screw under the logo emblem that you can't see until you pop it off.

I NEVER would have found that. Thanks!

koshe

got it out. What a pain...Thanks for the help!

You are very Welcome.  I had to pull mine out the other day and had forgot about that one screw so I figured you were doing the same thing.

Guys, would the same process work on a 69 dash........I need to change my head light switch.

Probably is the same number of screws.  It is hard to get it out without causing marks.  There's not much room behind the cluster to disconnect the vacuum line to the headlight switch and disconnect the speedo cable, but you can hire an asian message therapist with small strong hands and tell her exactly how it's done. :icon_smile_wink:
