I just used Rustoleum spray paint to paint my trim, would baking the piece help harden the paint or should I use a clear coat?
Knocked a piece into drywall and a piece flaked off, is why I ask.

I have used the Rustoleum and not had a problem. I do set the parts in the sun when possible mostly because it takes a long time to dry.

Hi Randy, have you considered SEM paints? I use several on the painted trim in my 69. Great stuff.  :Twocents:

This stuff is awesome and sticks to anything

Another vote for SEM - Trim black.  The stuff drys very quickly and looks excellent.  It is a little more expensive and harder to find.  I have not tried the Plastikote.  If the Rustoleum flaked off, make sure the surface is well prepped with sandpaper or scotch brite.  It does take awhile to dry, the sun def. sounds like a good idea to bake it on.

SEM is great stuff. So is Plasti-Kote, but I can't find it anywhere around here anymore. Every auto parts store that used to carry it switched to Dupli-Color, which is also pretty good but I liked Plasti-Kote better.

Rustoleum is an alkyd-based enamel. I've found it doesn't ever dry very hard to the touch, it kinda stays "soft" & scratches easily. I painted my trailer frame with it, and some other things around the house. I don't use it too much on my Chargers, though.

I'm experimenting with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator with good results. (I'm using my Cherokee as a test subject.) It's holding up great on my hood and cowl, even held up to removing tree sap with Goof Off. (Soon I'll be repainting the aluminum windshield trim with it.)   :scratchchin:
