After 17 years of searching, I finally found the correct collapsible space saver tire for our '73 Pontiac convert. This thing is new, never installed on any car. My Dad bought the car new and would not take it off the lot with that little spare tire in there...so the dealer pulled a new un-painted factory rally wheel off the shelf and put a full size tire on it and pulled out the space saver and he was happy. I now have trunk space again...wish I would have found this before our trip to Oregon last month. I just gotta find the hold-down wing nut now.

(PS: found it on Craigslist for $60)

Dosen't take much to make Bryan happy.

Of course there will be someone that will argure that it is not the correct spare tire for that car.

collapsible space saver tire
how does that work? (i never heard of a collapsible one before).

A383Wing

ya put air in the valve stem and it grows to the size of a full size tire...kinda like a telescope..the sidewalls of the tire are folded inside itself when collapsed as seen in picture

or just watch the video that Steve posted...but mine is a much bigger tire

Where do you get air on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere? Empty out one of the other tires maybe? :D

A383Wing

yer supposed to have one of those cans of compressed air....but I'm gonna go to Harbor Freight and buy a little 12v compressor for about $10 and keep it in the trunk as well

It's not I'm driving the car everyday anyway..so I doubt the tire will ever see the road

I use to work at harbor freight til about 2 months ago i would advise against the $10 compressor its a straight pos out of 50 people that bought em, that i couldnt talk out of it, 49 were back in the store within 30 minutes returining it for a bigger one

I personally would just put a full size spare back there like the chargers have and call it good.  ;) :nana:

had that...with full size spare, there is pretty much no trunk space to put anything for traveling

doctor4766

Get at least a semi decent compressor like you'd keep in your 4wd.
You'll thank me for that one day when you have a blowout and are in a hurry to get somewhere.
Gotta love a '69

Pontiac what?Bonneville? That is suprising that a GM big car came with a space saver spare,my 75 Buick Regal came with a full size.

A383Wing

Nope..mine's a Grandville....and it's a convert...you cant put a full spare up where yours is at because the top folds down up there...plus there is no hold down where yours is either..only in the right rear corner

It's amazing how the little "Nagging" things can really be hard to find. Then, you run up on 'em and it's a good feeling..SCORE!

That's a great price. A little patience will often pay off in the long run.
