Hi - need help:
The wire from the idle solenoid goes to an electronic part which is attached to the vacuum advance of the distributor.
(1) What is it? See picture (part?), how does it work?
(2) Is there a replacment available?

Thank you! Karl

I found in the Hamtrack Historical some information: I look for the "Control Module" on the Solenoid Retard Distributor see below. Where can I get one? How does it work?

Hi

Do the wires go to the "dashpot" idle solenoid to control "run on"?

My 6 pack Superbird runs on after turning off the key.
I am missing the original distributor so I am having this running on issue.

My Boss 429 ran on real bad, until I connected the original "dashpot" solenoid, now it cuts out straight away after turning off the key.

So I am looking for an original distributor with vacuum etc.

You will need the complete unit,I doubt you will find the electronics separate.

Do you have an idle solenoid ?

boss429kiwi

Hi

Yes I have the solenoid, but I am sure it requires 2 wires, one on the bottom, one at the top?

No, it requires only one wire. If you have a distributor with the retard control module it goes to the module and from the module to the alternator.

The four barrel equipped car has a two wire solenoid, one wire is to the distributor retard solenoid, the other to the alternator field terminal.

Thanks

Interesting, mine has the 2 wire solenoid and looks very period correct and un-touched.

Thanks again

1 wire idle solenoid and non-retard distributor on a 70 440-6. The 70 440-4bbl (single point) and the 71 440-6 (dual point) got the funky distributor and the 2 wire idle solenoid.

The 70 440-6 Idle solenoid should be stamped DR1114429 (also the same number for a 340-6 and a Hemi).

The 70 440-4 Idle solenoid should be stamped DR1114421 and (generally found on 71 cars) DR1114447

If the Idle solenoid is functioning you use it to set idle speed. When you shut the engine off it de-energizes and shuts the throttle plates a little more to prevent run on.
