1967 3.31 non sure-grip rear end?

Pumpkin only, differential housing not included.

Just curious what it might be worth on the open market

Rolling_Thunder

they made a 3.31 ?    I knew about 3.23 and 3.55...    never knew about a 3.31...    I'd say like $100 maybe ?  just like a 3.23 open ?

Your terminology has me confused. From what I have heard over the years, the entire third member in a complete form is referred to as a "Pumpkin".  If you are asking about the value of the cast iron third member housing with no internal parts, then the gear ratio is of no importance.
Just for grins, there was no factory 3.31 ratio. There were 3.36 ratio axles in GM cars. GM had a  Mopar style banjo axle up until the mid 60s, but I don't know if the 3.36 ratio was offered.
Finally: If you have a bare third member housing, the value may be between $25-$75. I've sold 2.76 sets for $50 though.

ChgrSteve67

Gear ratios available on the 8-3/4" axle through the years include: 2.76, 2.93, 3.23, 3.31, 3.55, 3.73, 3.91, 4.10, 4.56, 4.89, 5.17, 5.57

The 3.31 may not have been an availiable option for the Charger but it was availaible for a 8-3/4 axle.

I think he was refering to the rear axe housing. As in thee part that houses the pumpkin.

I didnt realize they made the 3.31 as late as 1967. What also matters in the case type (489, 741, 742 etc.). I'd price it at $60 and sell it for $50 if I could find a taker. If its a 741 case, maybe $25.  :shruggy:

They didn't. It's probably transplanted from an earlier year or it's actually a drop-out 8 1/4".

Casting number on the housing will tell.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

A383Wing

housing casting number is 1634985.....gears are 3.31 to 1.....it's an 8-3/4" drop out pumpkin with gears....I had it in my black 66 back in the late 70's & early 80's

terrible one

Pretty sure the 985 is basically the same as the 742, with the 1 3/4" pinion. I think the 985 was the casting number from early 60s to mid 60s then it changed to 742. :Twocents:

Thanks for the heads up.
I have never heard of that ratio in any 8 3/4 application until now. Thats pretty cool to know though.
My experience is with 67 and later cars, so maybe thats why it slipped by.  I have never even seen one in all my years of junkyard doggin'.
