what is this hole for

I know my car used that hole for one of those plastic spikes that hold insulation to the firewall

Exactly,right under the tach wire hole.

Usually those holes slightly protrude outwards around them if I remember right. LEON.

So the blue circle in the last pic is for the tach wire,correct? The purple arrow, is another ,unknown, hole at like 1 or 2 o'clock from the clutch rod hole,what is that one for? Thanks for the replies....

Speedo cable according to my disassembly pics.

This pic might help, it's my car before tear down.  You can see the hole you are talking about, I think it is the speedo cable hole.
