Pressurized water does a helluva job of spreading burning fuel, don't it? Nothing like knowing when to use the right type of fire suppressants.

I like the way they mostly spray the hood and deflect most of the water away from the fire.... Surely someone would have had a larger C02 extinguisher or foam.....

There is a huge contingency of volunteer firefighters in this country that don't have the training or equipment that professional units in urban areas do. Water may have been all they had. Who knows? Given what is going on, it looks to me that maybe the Vette had an electric fuel pump and the owner didnt turn off the ignition when things got hairy.

Well they wanted a burn out, they got a burn out. The Vett got burned out alright.

Well, being a volunteer fireman myself, all I can say is WOW!  Lots of things far from textbook there!
-Firefighters not wearing turnout gear or other personal protective gear
-Lack of foam being used with the water
-Standing downhill from a flamable liquid fire (evidence of the water running off with the fire burning the liquid on top of the water running towards the edge of the road)
-Lack of secondary means of extinguishment.  (ie - dry chem extinguisher)

I also have to agree that it seems like the fuel pump was still feeding the fire as a lot of the scene is where the fire is being shot straight up in the air.  Unless something is feeding the fire in an upward direction like that, you typically do not get fire that high or tall.

Every burn out competition I have been to has had a fire truck running, line stretched out already, and personnel geared up ready to jump in.  None of that was present from what I saw in the video.  Im sure the insurance company would love to get something like this on hand!   Claim....... DENIED!

This was at the Envy Frenzy in Kingston NY last summer.   I went home before this happened tho.   

I've go to this car show with my Charger cause it's local. It's mostly tuners and low rider trucks but the club puts on a good show and donates a lot of money to charity.
On Saturday night they have burnout contests - usually folks have a set of crap tires on spare rims. On Sunday, the burnout contestants usually display their blown tires in front of their cars.

The Vette is owned by a guy named Joel and this was a clusterf*Ck all around. A fuel line broke dumping fuel on the hot motor igniting it. Also the fuel pump melted and shorted the wires causing it to pump even after the ignition was killed.   Well,  at least that's how it was explained to me.     Should have had the pump on a relay 

He had just had it repainted this last year as it was blue before. He had won the burnout contest several years in a row.

On a semi related note,  that was directly across the river from Chelsea Clintons' wedding that day.

They eventually put it out but last I heard it was totalled.    I probably never spoke more than 3 sentences to the guy over the course of several years I saw him at that show but whatever... still sux.

Not for nothing,  but there's been plenty of Chargers ( and other Mopars too ) that have burned to the ground for electrical problems also....   ammeter and / or bulkhead connectors.    I'm sure lots of guys on this board have electric fuel pumps rigged up on some halfazz wiring also.
