Hi

Another dump question by a newbie.

I have seen Tor-red being referred to as HEMI orange. Is this correct? Where does "HEMI orange" come from?

Should Tor-Red have white or Black decals, or could it have both?

Paint Code V2

Dodge calls it Hemi-Orange

Plymouth calls it Tor-Red

Same color.

Bird's typically got White quarter panel lettering with the V2 paint code.

Here is the comparison between Dodge and Plymouth.

Aero426

Think of it as Dodge and Plymouth having separate sales and marketing departments, and thus justifying the need for different names of the same paint colors.

Regarding the Gearbox and gas equipment for my car, I did speak with Scott when I was in England but when he learnt that the car had left the States he seemed to lose interest in re-uniting the components; I have rung his house several times since but he has always been "unavailable" so I don't know if I will ever get the pieces back together.
I am not sure where the Californian owner sourced the nose from, I am pretty sure that it didn't come with the car when he bought it from MO though.
If anyone has any info. on Superbird RM23V0A171628 I would appreciate it, came from New York.

Interesting.

The bird has had a full engine and gearbox rebiuld. All numbers match. Has an original nose and wing etc.
The only area of "disappointment", is that the paint job is old and tired.
I want to restore in the near future.

Gary... She looks great. Love that six pack and 4-gear... WooHooo !!!!

Too bad about the nose decal/blackouts.. Shouldn't see any body color... Maybe that could be an easy fix?

Yes, there is a few things to change, nose decals, rear black out and side decals (white), black filler panel etc.
But I am not sure if to do this now or do when I go to restore?

How hard is it to remove the side and wing decals?

Supposedly there is a spray on decal remover that will not hurt the paint... Maybe someone will chime in here and tell ya or you could post an inquiry in the Paint/Body/Trim section.........

I've used 3M brand decal remover with great success.
Didn't hurt the paint at all. This was on a base/clear job.
Have not used it on a single stage paint system.

Ironically when I bought my v code 4 speed ev2 bird I had to correct the same things you have going on.  If memory serves me right, I left the bird on the wing uprights and just replaced the lettering with white.  PLYMOUTH decal also had to be replaced.  We were able to just lift a corner with a razor blade and I think we used a heat gun after that to help.  Previous owner had the vinyl on the head light buckets, but messed up one of the bigger stickers for the nose, so he didn't even put them on.  I put them on and just taped things out and blacked out the buckets.  I really don't have that many pictures of the car, but here it is after the details were redone.

Wildman

the talk of "white lettering" on EV2 cars is just that "talk". mine came thru originally with black.. so has many others.. put on what you like... :Twocents:

From the 1970 Superbird fleet engineering manual check line 5.  Sometimes you cant trust the factory literature  .And then theres random workmanship were lineworker goofs up :Twocents:

Heat gun,  or 3m stripe eraser which is a large round eraser that goes on a die grinder type device will take the PLYMOUTH decals off quickly.   Any remaining adhesive can be removed with the 3m adhesive remover mentioned above.  It is a mild solvent.  It won't hurt old paint.

Hi Gary,
yes it's me, sorry I should have introduced myself properly in the beginning!
I'm sure I gave Garry all the paperwork I had on the car when I sold it, but I'll have another look around, I do have the old English number (License) plates if you want them, PM me your address and I'll send them on.
