Tell me again why I'm supposed to like electric cars

For reference, my state charges $0.21/gallon in taxes (which is middle of the road), and the fed adds another $0.18, so $0.39.  The highest taxed state is Wisconsin at $0.32, bringing the max total to $0.50 - about 1/6 the price of gas.

If you raise my electricity rate by that percent, it goes from $0.06/kwh to $0.07/kwh.  And my monthly electric driving bill goes from about $25/month to about $29/month.

Still WAY under what it would take to make it as expensive as driving with gas.  I'm not sure why anyone is seriously trying to argue the individual economics at this point...

Anyway, personally I'd prefer that we add an independent tax on electric vehicles.  $100/yr sounds low, actually.  Assuming 12,000 miles/yr driving and 30mpg average, that's 400 gallons of gas in the average car.  At $0.40/gallon in taxes, that's $160 per person per year, so I say we use that.

You should sell the Charger then and you will be able to buy a Volt and you won't have to worry about gas mileage anymore.  Two problems solved.
I'm happy where I'm at thank you.  :icon_smile_big:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Not to Hijack the thread...... but how about a V8 Engine that makes 400 Hp 500 Ft Lbs of Torque, that was installed in a 87 Mustang that got 109 MPG, and on a trip to SEMA fully loaded with two adults, A/C on   thru the mountain at 10,000 ft and cruised aboved the posted speed limit, got like 94 mpg.
All that on e85 fuel.

Now I would buy that... and have it retrofitted into my ride!!!

I've read all  the posts.... still cant convince myself. Most people live in areas like apartments, or towns where you cant just plug in to a wall outlet and string a line to your car.
One has to pay to have one of those "outlets" to be installed in their homes and as of today in the areas around me I dont think there at pull up and park and convient plug in.
Thanks

Like any car their not for everyone.  I love the idea of sitting in traffic with the engine not running the best.
