I just noticed a styling QUIRK on the 70 model.

The chrome trim that goes around the taillights, the key for the trunk in right in the trim.

Looking at it, I think it would had looked better, if they moved it down.

No a big deal, I just (after all these yesrs) noticed it.

70 had chrome trim around the tail lights...only on certain models....my 500 has the one piece trim....but other models don't

I ferget which came with what trim

Rolling_Thunder

I believe the R/T and the 500 models came with the large one piece anodized trim.
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

Charger-Bodie

If I remember correctly all 70 Chargers have the tail panel trim (alluminum one piece panel) except the base model which only is the only Chargers (68-70) that didnt have upper door pads inside or w/o moldings.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Base model 70's and SE's had chrome around the tailights, R/T's, R/T SE's and 500's got the rear panel fascia panel

Styling quirk?  :shruggy: I see no quirk.

It's in the middle, right where it belongs. :)
Now if you wanna talk styling quirks, look at half the current cars on the road these days...that dumb lock cylinder is slid off to one side, in a taillight or some such nonsense. :image_294343:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Then why do some panels have the 500 emblem and others have the Charger arrow? My car had the arrow on the headlight door and the rear trim panel, but according to the VIN, it's a 500.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

I see no quirk any where on a 70'. I also have a 70 500 S.E. & mine had the 500 on the tail panel.

Chris or Don will have to answer that one, cuz I can't remember. :icon_smile_big: I think it was determined to be build date related, but don't quote me on it.

I had a 70 SE and mine didn't say 500 on it anywhere.

Because I am a very cymetrical kinda guy I agree with you. In fact for the last 12 months since I have a decided to change the rear tailights of my 68 to the 1970 model I always said "the only thing I gotta do different is move that crazy key hole thats right in the middle of the chrome up one inch".

If it moves up it would be perfectly in the middle of that panel rather than looking like it dropped too far down.

I will definatelly move it up slightly so its sitting in the centre.

The styling quirck that gets to me on the '70 Charger is that big-ass loop front bumper.  :eek2:

funny. the thing i like about the 70 is the big crome bumper and the fat front clip. had a 68 when i was young. but always wanted a 70. to each his own. but for me it is the 70 that i love the most.

All "XH" model Charger did not receive the trim piece. They had a body colored back like this:

All Charger R/T's and 500's got the rear piece like this:

There's really no explanation for the badges other than they probably ran out of them.

Since you're a symmetrical kind of guy, you'll also probably want to center the engine in the engine bay then, so the air cleaner stud sits exactly under the center rib on the hood. ;) If you leave it off to the right, like it is now, it's gonna do nothing but bug you... :poke:

exactly, it really screws things up when you try to center the hole in the hood with the scoop and don't even get me started on the piping for twin turbos, it would be so much easier to measure one side and then just copy it fo rthe other side, but NOOOOOOOOOOO......................

Didnt the 70-74 Barracuda have an offset trunk lock cylinder?
