Ive posted here because i dont know what section to post it in - because i have no idea what it is for!

Which is my question really. What is this hole for ( the one behind the brake pipe, not the steering coloumn hole)?

Or is it something someone has put in? It seems to be stamped rather than a drilled hole.

Any ideas?
