Hey a friend of mine has a 68 Charger and is interested in getting the history of the car  The VIN is XP29H8B292444... Can anyone help with the de-code and possibly with an ownership trail??

Thanks
-A

This Charger right here is a one of none, that means none before it, none to come.

I just started a thread looking for similar info. I have decoded the vin, but where do you start on finding the ownership trail?

Do you have a photo of the fender tag? What your friend appears to have is one of the rare 383 4-bbl 4-speed 1968 Chargers. Only 259 of them were produced during the 1968 model year (74 were produced as 2-bbls). It looks like an Inland shifter (reverse lockout) from the photos. The Vin number decodes to

X - Charger model line
P - Premium price class
29 - 2-door sports Hardtop
H - 383 4-barrel engine
8 - 1968 model year
B - Hamtramck MI plant assembled
292444 - serial number of car

Post a photo of the vin and we'll help you decode it, or go to Jim Shine's site (http://www.jimshine.com/tag%20info/68tagdecode.htm) and do it yourself.   :2thumbs:

As far as getting history on the car try to find the previous owner and go back from there.
