I'm going to break in my engine tomorrow (if it doesn't flippin rain) after months and months of building.  All I have to do is put on my fan belt and fill it up with fluids.  I was wondering how much play should be in the belt after install.  I've read a lot of conflictin views.  Some say tight as hell, some say keep it loose cause it will get tighter as it heats up   :shruggy:  Can someone give my an idea of "play" in inches?

Thanks, and wish me luck.

I just checked mine as I was pulling and pushing on the belt it seemed to have approx 1" play.
68 Charger, slowly in the works, 451 c.i. approx. 535 hp @ the flywheel, so far best time in the 1/4
11.21 @ 119 mph, full exhaust, stock suspension, 4:10s @ 3640 pounds.

Yep then check it after you run it for a while. Too loose would be better than too tight. Who ever said tight as hell  :slap:

Thanks guys. I did the 90 degree twist measurement and that seemed to work well. It was about an inch of play.  :2thumbs:
