weird headlight problem

Ok, here's my problem: my headlights turn themselves on and the doors open when I turn the ignition on (run position) even if my headlight switch is in the off position. If ignition is off everything works as it should..

Seems to me the dimmer always gets power no matter if switch is on or off (only when ignition is on). I don't think the switch is the problem as it worked fine before I removed the instrument cluster (didn't tamper with it). Could the dimmer get power through the headlight door relay? I know it shouldn't but..

Or could it be a ground issue? When ignition is on my right turn signal in the dash stays on (very dim). If I turn on the hazards (ignition on run) the turn signals in the dash flash but very slowly. Ignition off: blinkers work normal.

Do I have two issues (power to dimmer; ground) or just one that's causing the headlights to come on and the blinkers to act weird (ground issue)?

I upgraded to H4 headlights including relays. Should I run extra ground wires? I heard that the headlight relay is grounded through the headlights..could that be the whole problem?

All relays must have its own ground, wired or chassis. Hideaways relay for example is chassis grounded. This relay is somehow related with headligths, and if headlights are not propperlly grounded maybe is getting the demanded ground through the hideaways relay, keeping energized the system and making them work funny.

just a guess.

HOW IT WORKS ?

Floor dimmer swith green wire must be powered just when turning on or off the headlights, this is the trigger ( just the trigger ) for the doors. Then the low and high beams are selected on violet or red wires ( the ones running to front ), but green remains energized, so the trigger keeps door open.

however the hideaways relay must be powered through a blue wire just in RUN. This is the power what makes them work and is the one what actually feeds the door motor.

would it be possible that in my case current flows through the coil to the headlights and powers them as soon as I turn on the ignition? I know it shouldn't but check these diagrams:

Ok, solved the mystery! The problem was that the old door relay let enough current throught the coil (to the light green wire - 7 volt) to trigger the headlight relays. So whenever I turned the ignition on the door relay turned the headlights on. But this current flow was not enough to trigger the coil in the door relay...so the doors would open as well and stay open.

a 5 prong relay solved the whole problem as it doesn't use just one wire for two purposes: ground for the door relay and power to the headlights. now one ground wire and one power wire to the headlight relays.
