Finally getting ready to do my axle swap.........

Finally getting ready to do my axle swap.  I currently have a 74' charger with a 8 1/4 rearend with 2:73 gears.  I am swapping it out for a 8 3/4 rearend with new axles from Moser, 742 case with clutch type suregrip, and 3:91 gears from Strange.  I got the 8 3/4 axle from a 72' Roadrunner which measures out the same as my 74' 8 1/4.  The spring perches seem to be in the same place.  And I have been told the brakes will swap over to the 8 3/4.

I have never done an axle swap before.  But it doesnt look too hard.  I guess my question is..........  I have already forgot to get some new u-bolts.   But are there any suggestions that anyone can give me to make things go as easy as possible?  And is there any little parts and pieces that I am forgetting that I should replace or have on hand?  Any info or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!!!

if the car is rusty you may have porblems separtaing the brake lines , peneterating oil & heat can help , I would cut the old U bolts off , you will need brake fluid

You'll maybe need a new driveshaft...what trans do you have, what trans was in the donor veh?  If you have the same trans as the donor, you can use the donor's driveshaft.
Maybe replace the flex hose while you're there.
Good luck!

I'm looking forward to hear how it went for you, I'm getting ready to do my '73.  ( 8 1/4 to 8 3/4 ) All I need is a good sure grip pig.  I hate to spend the money on a new one but my contacts on good used ones are not panning out.

I had the same problem trying to find all my parts! :icon_smile_angry:  I thought I had a deal locally.  And then all of a sudden nothing.  I waited and waited and searched the internet.  I ended up finding one on ebay.  I paid a little more than I wanted to for it.  It was was the right case and the right clutch type suregrip.  But the wrong gears 3:23's.  So I had to buy new gears, bearings and a setup kit. But, I am on a schedule to get this beast ready for Mopars at the Strip at the end of March! :icon_smile_big: So I could not wait any longer.
