I found a complete '70 Monaco 2dr with a 383-4bbl auto at a junkyard near me. The whole drivetrain is still in it. I figure it's got an 8 3/4 because it's got a 383. Would a C-body 8 3/4 fit in my Charger or is it too wide?

A '70 Monaco would have an 8 3/4" and no it won't fit in any Charger, different spring pad width.

Even if you move the spring pads the '70 C body rear is over 1 1/2" wider than the '69 B body rear.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

If you are having a tough time finding a suitable b body rear end the c body rear axle could be a good canidate for narrowing to just stock b body dimensions or a custom width. Here locally I think I can get the housing narrowed and the axles resplined for around 200 bucks and then weld on some new spring pads the correct width, but it might still be cheaper in the long run just to find a b body rear.

If it's got a Suregrip, would the center chunk fit in a B-body 8 3/4?

Any 8 3/4 center section will fit regardless of body style

The suregrip could be either a cone type or a clutch type.  Wouldn't think you would want the cone type.

I had been pondering that same question, as I have a 70 New Yorker with a sure grip. Been to busy to crawl up under it to take measurements. Looks like I'll just be robbing the guts out of that one.

:yesnod:

Make sure they both have the same 8 3/4 as my 69 had the old style 1968 & back 742 instead of the 489?.
