Is this how the rear shocks should look?

I am swapping the air shocks and this is the current setup on my Charger. Is this normal, or will the new shocks not have the extender on them?

They shouldn't need an extender like that, no.

:iagree:  :yesnod:

only really used on the strip ! as stock length shocks  normaly run out of travel about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch !! before the leafs on a hard launch !!  will cause the rear to unload !! = lose traction  :yesnod:
:popcrn:

of course the shock absorbers on there now could be the wrong length also  :shruggy: :scratchchin:

They look like air shocks to me.....extenders on there to compensate for weak springs?

Should look like this....(minus the rear sway bar of course ;)  pay no attention to that :whistling:  )

Best of my knowledge (which is limited), these were installed with AIR shocks in order to give more Lift when the regular air shock wouldn't go up far enough to clear those huge N50 15's back in the day..I have a set of Air Shocks that I took off my Challenger and put on my '83 Dodge truck(Towing, too much tongue weight and this was cheap)..The shocks were quite a bit shorter than the stock Challenger shocks..Therefore, when you "Aired 'em up" the shocks would only give you about 2" MAXED out...So, these were installed to give approx. 4" of lift. I haven't yet seen a set on regular shocks...

I've seen those used to lift the rear so wide tires wouldn't rub the wheel well. The jacked up look was once cool.
