Here's a 68 GTX for sale by a dealer in Reno, Nevada. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plymouth-GTX-Coupe-1968-Plymouth-GTX-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem483c55941fQQitemZ310249886751QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks

I included pics of the automatic shifter that I think qualifies as bizarre/freaky/dumb. Is it just me? Opinions?

Well, no sir, I dont like it.  I guess, maybe it was too much to reach down to shift, not sure the reason, racing one maybe?

Cut the guy some slack.

If you were born with your hand attached to your elbow (no forearm) you would modify your dream car so you could shift it too.

Or maybe not.  :smilielol:

Probably couldnt figure out how to shorten the cable.

mikepmcs

that's what I was thinking.  person was disabled and modified the car. look how the tach is tilted down as well. seat is pretty far forward too.
easy fix.

It's a "Midget racer", they stand on the seat.

I was thinking the same thing other than they sit in a booster seat. Not a bad looking car other than the odd shifter location.

Maybe the guy has a fat wife and that shifter keeps her from "spilling" over into his area. :shruggy:

Any idea about the smaller handle/lever just below the shifter?  :scratchchin:

Trans brake?

Either that or reverse.

I had a 4-speed vertical gate shifter in my old 68 Dart GTS, and it had a separate lever for reverse.

I have a similar set up for a 4 gear in an A-body with a VERY short shifter...It really does make shifting with a 3" tall shifter ALOT easier than laying down in the floor to grab a gear. Course, the linkage rods are another thing all together....

Weird lookin'       yeah but race functional. I'm thinking it was a 1/4 mile drag setup. Shifter up high so the driver doersn't have to look for it when shifting by tach. Other lever is reverse.
