This car is the cat's ass!  I just got back from driving it 12 hours back to NY from Detroit.  First off, it was everything the salesman said it was.  Car is near perfect.  Aside from the condition of it, it's so much more car that I thought it was.  I can't believe how good it is.  It does everything well. Drives great, looks great, knocked down 23mpg and I was doing between 80 plus most of the way.  If I kept it at 70-75 i bet it would have been even better.  It handles like it's on rails, rides great....comfortable to sit in...  the driving part is easy to see coming.  GM has great engine/transmission combos. Even my old 99 gtp drove very well in that regard..same with my 02 Tahoe.  They just know how to nail that part.  The shocking thing is the interior and ride and feel of the car.  no gaudy crap all over the interior and this thing is so solid riding down the road.

For the price, I can't believe that they didn't sell a ton of these things..maybe it was too cheap?  It really can compete with some much higher priced cars.  plus I never remember seeing ads for them when they made them.   I see 10 a day for bmw and mercedes yet GM must thing people buy cars based on ESP lol...

This whole deal had 10 ways it could have blown up yet it didnt'.  My broinlaw and I flew into detroit last nite at 7pm, the salesman picked us up and drove us 40 minutes to the dealership, got the security guy to let us in and get the car and then to do the paperwork.  I was out of that lot 15 minutes after I got there owning the car.  we went and got a steak dinner, went to a bar for a few beers, crashed at the redroof, woke up at 6 and drove home.  All went perfect, not one hickup..

Anyone who's anywhere near detroit/roseville:  Jim Causely Buick/GMC is a really nice place and Dominic is a really good guy. Tells the truth and does what he says he will do. This car was every bit as good as he told me.

I live in Detroit, Jim Causley Buick/GMC used to be a Pontiac dealership.  They always had a good reputation from what I understand.

The guy said they were the biggest pontiac dealer in the country.  either way, He's good people and the place is at least good enough to allow how him to sell me a car for a decent price without F'ing me in the A with no lube.

btw, I ate at the bath something or other resturaunt about 2 miles from the dealer.  good stuff....  Not so good getting from the red roof to the interstate. found myself in an area with bombed out buildings and zero people around.  I mean zero.  Not expecting the st patricks day parade at 7am on a sunday, but not 1 person on a city street for miles?  wow.....

http://jalopnik.com/5589270/maryland-judge-decrees-pontiac-g8-gt-tail-lights-illegal

What a justice system!  :icon_smile_big:

This was his car when he was ticketed....

What does that matter? Do you not see the red reflectors in the back bumper????

The issue is that the judge deemed the car to not have the red reflectors in the rearward direction. Whether the tails are tinted or not, it was said that the problem was the red reflectors not being adequately displayed. However, the judge never considered that the car is still in compliance based on the reflectors placed in the bumper. The tail light assemblies, whether altered or not, are irrelevant! To be in compliance with the mentioned section of the MD code you need to have two red reflectors no less than 15" above the ground. The G8 has them. That's all!

Quoted from the original link I posted: "Because the red area in the lenses is reduced in the G8 GT, there are reflectors mounted in the bumper to reflect additional light and bring the reflective requirements into spec. Th officer and by extension the judge considered them illegal"

So you see the problem is that they are trying to say the taillights don't have the red reflecting feature thus putting the car our of compliance with code . . . but that's IRRELEVANT because the reflectors that put the vehicle into compliance are right there in the rear bumper!

Thats very interesting,

I was just looking at how he said the taillights were stock and how different dealerships said they were stock, not what he was charged with...

Good job detective!

:2thumbs: I like the G8s a lot. I like them more than the new GTOs. The LSX series motors are incredible and have a wide variety of aftermarket support and the best of all parts are cheap!!

ramit

I love those G8's...I hope to get one also.    I have a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP   with the 5.3 in it and I love it.   I just dont like all of that power in a front wheel drive car.   Its a fun family car though and I get 28-30 mpg on the freeway with it!

Here in Oz they're available as a ute (pickup) and wagon too

Gotta love a '69
