Running problems HELP!

So I just got my carb rebuilt by carb junkies and my car has been running like a top for a month now since the rebuild.  Wednesday, after taking 5 minutes to get the charger started (started after a 3 sec crank before) the car is stalling, sputtering, etc.  Replacing the plugs and wires has no effect. The car is pushing rich exhaust ( not oil) from both tailpipes.

Any ideas? Can something in the carb cause this all of the sudden?  The points look fine. The car is a bone stock 68 with a 383. Again, running perfect one day then doing this the next without popping the hood!

1. Check voltage at the points
2. Change the condenser.

Updated!  I noticed some fuel leaking out of the driver side if the carb. Does that help?  But this is after pumping on it to get it started.  Should this happen. Probably have 1/4 ounce of fuel on the intake

It's a carter AVS
I'll change the condenser and points for good measure.
How can I tell if a float is stuck?

No that shouldn't happen. Check all the screws on the body and make sure they are tight. That is an accident waiting to happen :fireangry:

So Assuming I had a stuck float I hit the carb with a hammer and presto! The rpm's went way up and it smoothed out. It's running much better!  But it's still running rich at idle with the idle screw all the way in.

It should die with the screws turned in all the way. Is it still leaking fuel?

I had a similar experience recently with my engine running very rich and idling like crap even after a rebuild. Super low vacuum too.
Turned out the brand new MP cam we installed was IN THE WRONG BOX!!! (well the label was wrong at least)  and we had a 509 lift instead of a resto magnum.
Was a real pain in the a$$ til we pulled the cam and discovered there's a color coded dot on the end according to the specs.
Wish I'd known that at the start.

But if it had been running fine til now I'd doubt you could have had the same happen to you.

It doesn't seem to be leaking fuel anymore.  I believe the fuel level was going so high doe to the stuck float that it was coming out the vent door at the top of the carb, but I'm still monitoring it closely.  As for the cam, it is THE stock cam that came with the car (didn't need to be replaced when rebuilt).  This engine has only about 10K miles on it since being rebuild way back in 1998.  The engine is stock bore (only had 80K miles on it when rebuilt) new rings, hardened valve seats, balanced, and all the other basic stock stuff.

But it still baffles me that the idle mix screw won't make the engine die when all the way in.  In fact, it runs best all the way in (how does that make sense?)  I never realized these screws are LH threaded.

I do not know much about your carb but A: if your base idle is set too high, a setting that is connected to your throttle linkage and the butterfly plates inside the throat of the carb. that would happen, B: Secondary's way too rich/maladjusted, this would happen. C: Ignition maladjusted some how, (Always get ignition perfect before adjusting carb.) Can you post pic. of carb?   :scratchchin:
