I was going to take pictures and get specs of my wheels.  So this would be the first time I'd take my wheels off since I bought the car.
Turns out that my tires are too tall to get past my wheel wells.  THey're also soo big my wheels cant get past my rear drums.
So im guessing the last owner put the wheels on before they installed the rear end.

ANyone else have wheels too big like mine?  tips or advise on getting these things off?

How do you lift the car? If you jack it up at the rear axle it won't help you at all. Try to lift it at the frame or rear bumper (only for a short period of time) so that the leaf springs are in full rebound (no load) - this might give you enough clearance to get the wheels off.
If it still doesn't work disconnect a leaf spring hanger and go from there.

You could also let the air out of the tires.  :shruggy:

yep - just jack up the car via the frame rail - this will let the axle and tire drop below the lip of your 1/4 panel      :2thumbs:

:iagree:  That's the way to get them off the car easily. I built a drag car years ago with 32.5 x 18.5 tires and the rim was only a couple of inches below the wheel well. Really cool look... The only wat to get the tires off, with the rearend in place, is to let out the air in the tires.

easy ways are lift the by frame rails like everyone said I dont see why it wouldnt clear. then if it doesnt let the air out to and if that dont work remove a bolt from  each side of the leafs and drop her down till it clears. Ive worked on many a drag cars that ive had to drop the rear just to clear! :2thumbs:

and yer point? some of us here are old people  :D

jeryst

I had exactly the same situation with a 70 Charger project I just sold. Previous owner put huge mud tires on it. (See pic)

Put the jack under the frame rail, and jack it up until the tire clears the ground by a foot. Once you get the lug nuts off, pull out the bottom of the wheel first, which will make the top part rotate inward. Then all you have to do is clear the studs as you slide the wheel out at an angle. That is why you will have to jack it up so high, to allow the tire to slide downward enough to clear the body.
