Wheel size for slicks

Ok, car= first gen Barracuda or Dart no tubs or cutting.

What size wheel should I look for to put slicks on? How much space needed for tire growth?

I'm thinking maybe a 15x10 with a  5- 5.5" backspace??
Just not a 4.5" right?
Should that give enough room underneith and on the the sidewall?
Planning on SS springs - do I need to move them inboard?

Chryco Psycho

on my 68 10 " did not fit , move the springs if possible & measure carefully
slicks do not grow a lot & they will grow in the middle not at the edges where the body is generally a problem
the best way to make the most of slicks is to have a wheel very close to the width of the tire , so a 9" slick works best on a 8.5" -9" rim

A set of 15x7 in steelies with a 9in slick should get the job done. SS springs, drag shocks or caltracs and monoleafs work great as long as the front end is loose enough and there's descent weight transfer.  :Twocents:

Hey Ron,

Do you think I should use standard 4.5" backspace for gor for an offfset?
On a 7" I'd imagine a standard backspace would be fine, right?

Hi Dave, a standard offset should work...but you might want to measure just to be sure. What year is the Cuda ?

The Cuda we wanted got away but was a '68.
We're still looking although the drivetrain needs to come first. Likely candidates would be a first gen Barracuda or Dart although we do know of a couple early B bodies or maybe a '62 Belvedere wagon.

I know a guy who currently runs a '65 Cuda but wants to move to another car and I could maybe get his car already caged ect but minus his
motor/trans and probalby wheels. He's currently running mid 11's with a B stroker.

Hi Dave, sorry to hear the little 68 Cuda got away....i'm sure something else will pop up. Keep looking....that '65 sounds interesting and all the chassis work is done. A roller is the way to go if economy is the name of the game.  :icon_smile_big:

I went out and measured the '65 quarter panels out back
Only 30 inches across the wheelwell and about 13 inches from the inside of the lip to the inside of the wheelwell if you move the springs out of the way.

Not optimum if you don't want any tubs or cutting

The race car sounds pretty cool though

GTX

Wow, thanks for the measurements. I was sort of wondering what space I'd have there stock.

Now I'm sort of thinking going offset backspacing. I don't think I'd get in too much trouble that way but might be safer.
What do you guys think??

I should just ask Jessie,  the guy with the '65 but he's in hybernation and I sort of need to get these now if I want the price offered.

Gotta decide by mid week next!
