Which one would you think might be the best choice?

Factory 1972 727TF (factory tranny out of the car)
2 (40%)
a 47RH which I'm told is a diesel transmission
0 (0%)
46RH which I'm told is behind the 360 and Viper motor (probaly Ram SRT10 extended cab...)
3 (60%)
A-518
0 (0%)
Other (please provide details)
0 (0%)

I'd like to go with an o.d. tranny to have that extra gear and run a little steeper gear ratio in the rear (8 3/4) and still maintain some kind of highway drive ability. The motor will be a modified 440 probably around some 500 horse power, maybe a little over. If I'm not mistaken these trannies are SB bell housing bolt pattern so I will have to use an adapter kit. Anyway, what kind of modifications to the car will I be looking at? Also, will it be worth my time even attempting something like this? I want to reuse my floor console (am told will probably have to modify the floor to get the tranny to fit) and want to run a TTI x pipe crossover exhaust kit (but I plan on using straight through mufflers instead of the super turbos that come with the kit.
So if one of the other two transmissions is to be used instead of the factory one, then what will I be getting into as far as fitment, and clearance with the tti kit? Also, to handle this kind of power from this 440, what kind of rebuild might I have to look into for either one of these transmissions? I'm sure there are going to be questions asked and such, so ask away.
As for the Gear Vendors o.d. unit, I've thought about it, but TTI says that it will not work with their exhaust.

I have a 518 in my 440 '73. Ultra bell , big cooler with 3/8 lines, significant crossmember mods.  Dimples dont really show with carpet. Will need cable shifter and new kick down (TV cable).

Two days on lift with helper.

Was it worth it? Oh yea!

Don't know about the diesel trans. or TTI issue.

To run a 518 tranny, I'm going to need a cable type shifter? I've already made my mind up to run a cable kick down assembly b/c I'm gonna end up running an Indy intake so... I've thought about the A-518 in the past and have seen an article about it, maybe I'll throw this one into the works as well.

A column shifter would work . I think the stock Mopar console shifter would  would hit the O/D tailshaft. My be you could modify it. I used a Hurst quarter stick 2.

flyinlow, any pics from the bottom of the car?
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

Hmmm... So what are the advantages of say the 518 vs the other two tranny's listed? When it comes to modification I normally don't mind, but that's when it comes to motors, rear axles, and transmissions, lol.... Not really the car body... Suspension is another one that I don't mind all that much  modifying, heck I'm gonna be moving my leaf springs inward and running slider mounts lol. Still will have to find one of these puppies locally then rebuild it accordingly. Is the 518 electronically o.d. operated or what? I'm trying to stick with hyd controlled trany's here... This si why I was saying the RH's instead of RE's.... Like the 727, I'd like to just put it in gear and let it go unless I wanna shift manually... Also, are you saying that the factory shifter want work with the 518? Or are you referring to a different transmission? I'd like to keep the interior as close to factory as possible, minus a tach addition. Like I've told a buddy of mine, my knowledge is with bbm, and a lil in the 727 (like what came out of the car and it sitting on the porch right now) so.... I'm finding myself back in the learning seat. If I end up running my 727 again, I'll stay with the 3.23 gears in it now or upgrade to 3.55 gears, if I get an o.d. tranny, then I'd like to go on up to a 3.91 gear set.

A 518 (or 46rh) looks like a smallblock 727 with a fatter 3 inch longer tail shaft. It feels and shifts just like a 727 Tf except at 70 mph after you flip the switches almost 1000 rpm go away. It is hydrualically controled in 1,2,3 ,R , N and park. 3rd gear OD and converter lock up are controled by two toggle switches on my car.

A 440/Hemi 727 Tf is simpler and more rugged. I Put A Trans Go shift kit in my 518 (TFOD 2 kit) I hammer on the the first three gears just like its a 727.  OD and lock up clutch are for cruising. I do not subject them to the full torque of my 446. Plan on upgrading the internals sometime.

I bought a spare trans crossmember on ebay to mod. My Charger is a 73 Se original 318 car. It has no value except as a toy for me ,so putting two half golfball sized dents under the carpet on the sides of the trans tunnel did not bother me. While I think the 727Tf was a great trans. I doubt I will ever go back to it.

The 618 (47rh) was used behind diesels I think. I dont know if That trans will be happy shifting at 5000-6000 rpm.
Having higher torque rating number ,47 vs 46 ,I would think it would handle BB torque better.

518 needs an addaptor to bolt to a BB. I cut the bellhousing of the 518 and used a Ultrabell 727 to BB mopar bellhousing.
