Hey gang..
Looking to further along the process of my '69 C500.......... What would be the best source for a fuel tank and sending unit at a good price (maybe discussion board discount)? I see quite a few vendors sellling on ebaymotorparts.. Are there numerous manufacturers of tanks or are they all pretty much sold by all and made by one?

Thanks..

Ive had good luck with Quanta Products.  They also sell gas tanks and sending units I think.  However, I have heard that repro sending units are not accurate at all.  Might want to stick to an original one and have it rebuilt.

Argh. There was a detailed post about fuel sending units and why the new ones don't work on the board a while ago. I recall it because I found it absorbing.. (says something about my life don't it) Ill have to search for it.

Doesn't really help with your original question on best bang for the buck. Or maybe it did suggest a source for the sending units.

Maybe this will help: (Seems this was an inexpensive supplier last year?)

you have to bent the float rod so the float goes further up into the tank
other wise it only read 3/4 full and when it reads empty you still have 4-5  gallons left in it .  many people will tell you its your ground and ground is important  but non of them read right with ou the rod adjustment . they were set up for GM TANKS

KRAMER AUTOMOTIVES could it be a good resosurce. I got the gas tank from them back in 2008 at Carlisle in $240 or so for a while rest of sellers had it on $400 rate ( 74 tank is expensive )

Spectra brand

I guess they could have senders too

If you go to the search box in the Electric gauges section and type " replaced my gas tank, and now my gauge is doing the funky" you will see Robs thread about what he went through after replacing his tank and unit.

I bought Spectra Premium.  I think they are made in Canada.  The sending units thread will probably tell you which one of those to buy and how to make it read correctly.   Note that sending units come in either 3/8 inch or 5/16 inch dia tubes depending on if you had the 318 or 440---I say this but the 3/8 might have been only on the Hemi----don't recall.  And they are also available in stainless steel.  Not sure if the sock comes with them or not.  Maybe some have and some do not.  Also remember a thread about being careful about the gasket that goes between the sending unit and the tank.  There were some that didn't seal correctly.  Finally, don't forget the ground.  The OEM piece used to be available from Mopar still.  In fact, there was list of MOPAR parts that you could still get at the dealer.  I doubt that it has been updated and lots of those parts are probably no longer available.  But a ground strap is easy to make if necessary.

I've had a Quanta brand CR9A in for years.  "North American" made... ie: Canadian.     I bought it from some Mustang place in CT off ebaymotors years ago for a great price.   Same brand sold on gastanks.com that also shows up at places like Carlisle and most likely same brand that's sold on Year One, etc.  (haven't checked lately).

I painted it with a couple coats of SEM clear rock chip paint.  Still looks great.   I guess eastwood also makes some gas tank coating if you prefer.

I spent a few bucks on some of the stainless straps that still look great also.

The repro sender unit reads very low and I've been meaning to readjust it for several years  :eyes:
