I have a 383 w/ 727 trans. trans is rebuilt, but sat for a while. Shifts into gear good, but I have a problem. I tried to test drive today. wont shift out of 1st...What might it be?

I have only drove it 2 trips that were only 1/2 block each way. It was revving high and holding its gear. My buddy just told me to go put a mile on it, then see???

Sounds like the govenor needs to either Free up, or has picked up some trash and has it stuck. You didn't mention wether it had a shift improver kit installed where rebuilder went into the valve body or not...

Found out that it has a reverse valve body. The tranny was rebuilt by a local mopar performance shop. It was a left over they had. I guess they forgot to fill me in. Should I leave it in or change it? And does that mean my kick down is not usefull now?

Sounds like if you got a problem with shifting, the trans needs to go back to the shop that installed "A used" reverse manual Valve body....

Did you ask for a reverse valve body?
Why do those people use (2nd hand) parts on the rebuild and then 'forget' to tell you about it?
They didn't really satisfy your needs.  :Twocents:
