WHITE AND RED 69

I am replacing my speedo cable on a 69 and it just wont stay clipped in? I can connect it no problem to the gauge but every time I push the gauge cluster back in it pops out. I know that it just clips in but mine wont. it is a replacement from year one. any suggestions. Thanks

Ive seen it possible where the guage has a hairline crack and is seperating enough for the cable to come off. The fix ive seen is throwing a hose clamp on it to keep it together.

I pulled the entire cluster out and pushed the cable as far on as possible yet it still wont click on and stay put. Couldn't hurt to try a hose clamp, at least I know it will stay put. Thanks.
