Were any 66 & later 383's externally balanced? 

I'm thinking no....but I've been wrong before

not that i recall. I they all had forged cranks. I am pretty sure your thinking correct.

Yes, some later ones had cast cranks so externally balanced, but most had forged cranks and internal balance.

Beginning with 1971 two barrel engines, the 383 came with a cast crank.
