Looking to put some jump(for cheap) into my 73 400cui, and installing a set. Presently, have stock open chambered ones. I have seen in Mopar Mag, some for $499.99, but do not know if they are closed chambered or what. Any Ideas?? Al

73 heads came with 346 castings... there were some 902's in 71 i believe (not sure).  906's are more common.  452's would be a better chance for ya.

If your going to get heads do yourself a huge favor and get closed chambers.  Aerohead has rebuilt 516 and 915 heads for $599 and will add a full point of compression to your smog 400.  Well worth it IMHO.

I switched from built 906's to a set of built 516's and it is a world of difference.

My bad....wrong numbers posted! ::) Anyways, I want to install closed chambered heads to up the compression.
I checked Aeroheads website and found the # 516-915 heads for $599, which I can afford.
I sent them an e-mail, so I am just waiting to hear back. Are they good guys to deal with?  :shruggy: Al

I picked up a set at the Nats a few years ago and they are nice. A small duration cam will add some 'pressure' and bump the cr up. You should check and see how deep your pistons are. Then you can get a better idea of what is possible by swapping heads and cams plus gasket thickness.

Where ya at Al? If got a set of good 346s sitting on the shelf that I'll sell you real cheap.

346's are open chamber.

He actually probably has them on his 400 too or something very similar.  Easiest way to get compression without changing pistons is going to a closed chamber.  I bet he's got 8:1 now...
