Is the Hurst Super Comp, that is available new, the identical Super Comp that came in 4 speed cars?  I haven't been able to find a post addressing this.

The reason I ask; my Super Comp needs to be rebuilt, the chrome on the pistol grip isn't the nicest, and I don't like the loose feel of the slide in shifter.

The new Super Comps have two bolts and the new pistol grip shifters from summit are also two bolt.

1. Would this be a direct bolt in?

2. Will the stock rods work or would I need the install kit?

There is 2 types of shifters. One is a bolt in handle and the other was a slip in handle. The one that is being advertised is the bolt on handle. You might want to call jamie at www.passonperformance.com. He rebuilt my slip in shifter and added positive stops. You could also ask him he rechromes the handles.

The stock shifters just said Hurst on them and had Chrysler spec'd rods - which weren't as tough as the Super Comp rods. The Super Comp, in appearance looks the same as on OEM hurst - The main difference being it says Super Comp. on them. On handles - Just as 70sixpkrt said - The bolt in (Pistol Grip) handle started on 71 B & E bodies....the 70 back (Hurst OEM) were slip in.

I talked to Jamie at Passon today because of your recommendation. :2thumbs:  I will be shipping my shifter to Passon's later this week.

If your shifter is in good shape and just needs to be checked/greased it is something you can do at home ---  I took the factory shifter off my 69 RR trans and disassembled it to check if anything was worn or broken - cleaned all the parts, re-lubed it, and reassembled it ---  now it works tip top...          By all means if you lack the time / confidence to do this then it is much easier all around to send it to Passon for a rebuild   :2thumbs:

The positive stops can be added by simply drilling / tapping a hold for a bolt and then using a nut to adjust the stops...      I think there was an article way back when somewhere about it in Hot Rod
