First time I went down the track had butter flies in my stomach. After the first time I was hooked, & still got butter flies, have not been back to Munice Dragway since 86. Back then ran a 12.68 with a stock 383, 3 angel 906 heads, 850 double pumper 727 reverse vale body,Dana 60 4.56, 29.5x10.5 slicks & a lakewood 3-point bolt in bar, ah the immortality of youth. You can also stage shallow or deep, this will affect your reaction time & 60 foot times. But like they said practice makes prefect, just do a lot of it & have fun. You can play around with tire pressure also, to get a littel better bite. I also found that the other racers will be more then willing to help you out with info. if you just ask.  .
