My 73 had fender braces. Braces from the center of the firewall to each of the front fenders. It was a 440. My 72 does not have them. It was a 318, now a 360. It has the bolt on the firewall for the braces. I am wondering which models had them?

My understanding is that '71 did not have them, '72 did have them, and 73-74 had them (but different from the 72).  Like yours, mine are missing on my 72.  Also, the brace would be the same for any engine...

I Have a 74 rr w 440 it has braces, and also have 74 sat. with 318 and it has braces, so i would say yours had the braces.

Anyone selling them? Repopped or otherwise.

1972Rallye mention that the 72 braces are different than the 73-74. I wanted to know the difference between the two.

The difference is length. Even though I have parts books for '70 thru '73, I can not seem to find the part numbers for these braces.  In '72 the distance (along the fender mounting flange) from the rear of the flange to the mounting hole for the brace is approx 18.25".  In '73-'74 that same hole is in a different location - appox 19.5". That would make the '73-'74 braces slightly longer. There is a thread at www.1971-1974dodgecharger.com with pics that illustrate this:

Now what the actual length of the brace is: I wish I knew... mine are missing. ::)

Is the firewall mounting stud present? When was your car built?  I've seen many 72 440-4spd cars that have/had them (including mine).  Please tell us more... :2thumbs:

'72 400 has 'em I could measure but car is buried under 3 ft of snow right now  ;D

JRP16AZ

All 73's had them. Passenger side is 34" and driver side is 32 1/4. Hope that helps...

chargd72

I have a set of 73 braces.  Rusty, but some blasting and fresh paint will make them usable.

Sorry just saw this.

I'll have to check for the stud. My car is a late build (June or something) 72; I think it is the last 440 4 spd in the database.
