HELP!!! Jackstands causing doors to bind a bit..

Ok guys, I have the rear of the car in the air and the jackstands are on the axle housing. Now when I jack the front of the car up by placing a jack under the K member, the drivers door has a bind to it. I have to lift up on it to get it to close smooth..  It does close, but I don't want to stress the body or anything!!

So where should I place the jackstand in the front to prevent the car from doing this...

What is it doing this?

My rails look great!

Sorry to tell you, but thats a unibody for you

The best thing to do to these cars is subframe connectors....they really stiffen things up. Even if your not making crazy hp, these cars bend and move with every turn and bump. When i got the connectors put in you noticed the car rides alot more solid and i can jack it up from any which way with no flex.

I will put those on the list..

I tried the jackstands on the fraimrails just behind the front suspension and all is well..

Thanks man!!

I, too, have noticed this phenomenom but it still doesn't make sense. Jack stands under the axle housing are on the same place in the wheelbase as the tire sits on and a jack under the K-member is in line with the front wheel centers....why is this any different then the unibody resting on the rear axle and front K-member at the same place as the tire centers in the wheelbase?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I think this is because when you lift the front end under the K-member, the front tires hang and take pressure off the torsion bars. Since the torsion bars mount in the framerails behind the k-member, you release some stress on the frame rails and the car sags a little in the middle. I haven't tried it, but I bet if the front of the car was on ramps you wouldn't have the same problem... :Twocents:

You could try to put jack stands under the lower control arms, with both in place and the rear end jacked up with the jack stand placed on the axle tubes. Then after its leveled out, you should be able to open the doors without a problem.  :Twocents:

All of them! As for the frame connectors, there are many different vendors with different types, like the ones that only ties the frames together, and the ones that also welds to the floor to make it look like part of the frame.

Do a search for frame connectors, and you will find various threads on installations.

This is the way I've had my car stored all winter, and I've been able to open the doors easily each time I've gotten inside to work on it.

Nope, not a convert, My 70 is actually my 3rd Mopar if you don't count some of the Dodge trucks I've had. I just never got under the Duster or Challenger plus they were both many years ago and I really just got my Charger.

HPP

Convertibles are uni-body too. That is why they have the torque boxes in them.

Place jack stands on all 5 of the X's to eliminate door bind.

Sorry for the quality of the picture.  Taken out of a book.  Let me know if you can't make out some of the words. :2thumbs:
