Reproduction bumpers on 2nd gens-yay or nay?

I need opinions on after-market/repro bumpers. This car isn't going to be a show, numbers matching, garage queen. It's going to be a daily driver and occasional car show model but nothing major.

as it is now, both front and rear bumpers are pitted and badly in need of re-chroming. I can't wait for "at least a month" for a chrome shop to do it, as the one nearby is a bit of a crapshoot.

Right now the car is having body work done and after that, straight to painting. should be another 2-3 weeks. after that, I really do need the car, as it's going to be my only car/daily driver.

so I'm just curious if anyone's gone for the repros, any pros, any cons, etc.

The repros are decent if you just want a driver.  But most guys who really care about such things as chrome quality tend to have a set of originals replated instead.

The repros are passable but they wouldn't be selling if everyone could still get an original one replated for the same money.

very happy with mine keep the origanals for when you win the lottery though

I purchased repro bumpers front and back. The front one was passable for now, a little wavy but it fits nice and looks decent. The original front will be re-chromed eventually when I have 1K to get it studded and chromed. The repro rear bumper however was terrible IMO. it did not fit at all. One side was way to high, and the ends of the bumper were bent inwards. I had them send me 3 different rear bumpers and they were all the same. I had to bite the bullet on the rear and have my original re-chromed. I also decided to have them weld studs to the inside so there would be no button head bolts on the outside.

Most of the repros I've seen feature the "washboard finish" option at no extra cost.

I've bought a set of AMD's and the look great, they're just not as thick as the originals.

If I lived in the US (so shipping would not be as expensive as it is for me now) I might have searched for some nice originals and have them replated to have the one and only right pair of bumpers but then You'll probalbly put some extra money in the whole story....

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I got a set from Gillette Classics (Goodmark reproductions). They are decent, better than I expected from repro bumpers.
I think they are actually THICKER than the originals. Not 100% show chrome, but very presentable. At under $500 bucks for the pair, they'll do just fine for the car I am building. If I wanted to rechrome originals with show chrome, they'd probably be $600-$700 a piece.

Only info I have is on the rear, mine came from Goodmark (still have the box) as part of the deal for the whole car.  When I took it out to start test fitting it I found a really poor chrome job plus the thing was bent down at both ends. Not much bend but enough to be really obvious.  I ended up taking it to a local shop to have it straightened and rechromed.

With most repros they keep the metal mostly as thick as the old stuff but they skimp on the alloy content.  That's why so many of the "original thickness" parts still feel lighter & more flexible.

I need a new front bumper (or my original re-chromed) Is the opinion still that the re-pops are sub par?
