What's the secret code to getting the oil pan with windage tray off.  I did it a couple of years ago and can't remember the trick.  The oil pickup blocks the removal.  Thanks, Bob.

split the gasket /sealer  so the windage tray is separated fro the oil pan , rotate the crank so the oil pan misses the crank counter weights !  , remove oil pan , the move tray to miss pick up !   although thinking about it !  might not be able to turn tray enough when motor  in car !  , un screw pick up  :scratchchin:

Bob, if the engine is still in the car you will have to drop the centerlink. Once it's removed you can pull the oilpan back a bit & lower it to clear the pickup.

Centerlink is dropped and I don't think I had to split the tray from the pan last time.  Thanks, Bob

Well, I had to separate the pan and tray to get them off.  I wired them together to play with how to get them on as a unit and I just can't get it to happen.  So, I guess I'll have to use "the right stuff" mastic and seal the gaskets to each side of the tray, then mastic the tray to the block and finally mastic the pan to the tray.  Sure hope I never have to take it off again.  Will the mastic hold the tray up to the block if I hold it in place for a few minutes?  Thanks,  Bob

thats good got it off Bob  :2thumbs:
hmm not sure ,  how i do  mine  , is to use a few studs & nuts screw them into the oil pan rail  ,  holds every thing in place ! once   more bolts have been put in , remove studs &  carry on as normal ,  :yesnod:

Good work Bob. I'm guessing that this is an aftermarket oilpan with a deep sump ? Those sometimes require seperating the pan from the windage tray....depends on the manufacturer of the pan/pickup.  :yesnod:

You could glue both gaskets to the windage tray and then seal the tray to the engine block using a few bolts to hold it in place until the RTV sets up....then remove bolts. Later put the RTV on the oilpan surface and install it and you're good to go.
