I have a fuel tank that is all rusted inside is there a way to remove the rust to use it again or should I purchase a new tank.

Throw that crap in the trash and buy a new one. Think about it is a 40 year old gas tank. You can clean them but it is better to get a new one. Look on eay for about $150.00ish buck shipped to you.

The first thing I did was throw the tank away.  Then you can't even have a second thought about trying to salvage it.  I will be purchasing a repop off ebay for 180 shipped (3rd gen).

Throw it out, spend the $200 for a new gas tank... Otherwise you'll be stuck replacing fuel filters and fuel pumps every few weeks for the rest of your life.

First thing i did after my Scamps carb plugged up, luckily the 1920 has the jet right there when you take the float bowl off, unsscrewed it, blew it out and drove home and yanked that tank off and cleaned it.

Coronet has a new tank.   And if my sons Monte Carlo plugs its filter one more time that tank is coming off too.

Don't mean to resurrect an old topic, but I thought I would throw in my  :Twocents: . My other passtime is restoring tractors. Most of them have rusty/crusty gas tanks, but replacements are hard to come by. I usually use electrolysis to get the rust out. Takes roughly 48 hours or so and doesn't cost anything except water, a little electricity from your battery charger and some salt. End result is a nice clean tank.

Eastwood sells a kit for sealing gas tanks if you really want to re-use your old tank. I used it on my Chevy since buying a new tank for a 1930 is next to impossible.
