Probably because they were so expensive, nobody wanted to pony up for them. Remember this was back when you could get a completely built 426 from carb to pan for under $10k. So to dump another $10k on top of it was kinda of crazy. Since unlimited type class racing was just getting started, there wasn't much demand for something that far outside of what NHRA and IHRA would allow, so they quietly died.
