Hi,
I'm ready to remove the old hose fittings on the WP housing (iron) but a friend in the garage told me that they often brake/burst when remove. And that will damage the housing.
Have you guys have any problem remove the old hose fittings from the WP housing? What tools do you use? Any tip...

Thanks!

I was helpless and couldn't figure this very thing out myself...  my buddy took a pipe wrench to it, and a little pressure, it was off.  Could tape the mouth of the wrench so it doesn't leave an imprint...  Worked for me

I guess I didn't put much thought into it. I just clamped the housing down in the bench vise, grabbed the pipe wrench and poured the coals to them. They both looked like Twizzlers by the time they broke loose but break loose they did and I threw them in the garbage. Got two new ones from 440 Source now ready to go in.

PS -this is about the only coolant-related item I'd buy from 440 Source right now. See here if you haven't already: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,60599.0.html

A couple of days of pre-soaking in penetrating oil is a start... after that just grab it with a pipe wrench or vise grips. You can forget about saving them however... As Bull said, there cheap enough to replace.

Alright - Mine WP is not outside, it's on the engine in the car... Will do a test then. Thinking of use the small rails on the top of them to turn them loose.

Every time I've tried to remove stubborn WP nipples with a pipe wrench the walls collapse, I now shove a taper bar into the nipple before applying the pipe wrench to prevent the collapse.

Today I remove the hose fittings wasen't any problem at all. Spray them with WD-40 some days ago. They messure O.D thread 16,6 mm little more than 5/8" must be 5/8 npt then....

Pipe & Tubing sizes don't work that way...

NPT sizes fall under the heading of scheduled tubing... SCH-40, SCH-80, etc, where the outside diameter remains constant and the wall thicknesas determines the schedule.

0.540 OD = 1/4"
0.675 OD = 3/8"
0.840 OD = 1/2"
1.050 OD = 3/4"
1.315 OD = 1"

Jesco

That explains some - sorry I am a metric person . Thanks for the great info. Then it must be 3/8 npt plug am I right?

Pre-'70 BB heater hose nipples are both 1/2"NPT, '70 and later have one 3/8"NPT (out) and one 1/2"NPT nipple (return).

I have a piece of stock that is about an inch wide, 8" high and the perfect thickness for the slot in the top. I have been thinking of making a tool that slides inside (Like John K suggests) with a sideways piece that will engage the slot and an outside sleeve that fits tight so the ends wont mushroom around the slot. That is if I am trying to save originals (I bead blast them and replate them) the repops are kinda crappy and some actually say CHINA on them....Not on my watch!  :icon_smile_tongue:

Here's a pic of the nipple tool I made, same as maxwellwedge  suggested.
