Have been through a few and find overall that BOSS/Roland products to be of superior quality.
I have used the BIG MUFF distortions for near to 30 years now though there have been others.
My latest Soviet Made example has the in and out inputs reversed but other then that, this particular example has lasted nearly 15 years now.
My first distortion was an original Bosstone i bought in 1970 which was basicly made of pot metal and made some really rude sounds once it began to corrode, real guitar geeks might appreciate that.
 :shruggy:
I have had a few Vox Cry Babys and Whas - the cry babies have a higher pitch BTW.
I have two Line 6 digital delays (that would be the big green ones) that also play backward and I would suggest any of their pedals I have demoed all of them in the stores and they are quite captivating.
I like the ZOOM products' presets but have found them cheaply constructed and I didn't care for their Op. Systems.
My latest acquisition was the Boss RC-20-XL loop station, which allows me to layer my own compositions with 16 minutes of memory on up to 10 tracks that is also able to record overdubs.
I have to say I have spent many years reading manuals and doing notes and organisational charts to get everything sussed out and organised. My Roland GR-1 guitar synth alone took me two years to write and organise my own patches but It has been a pleasure in the long run, I have two of them because I hate when stuff breaks or goes obsolete and I have to learn/program new operating systems after having mastered my prefered set up.
I now have two of mostly everything.

A side note is that if you get into music and musical insterments you probably wont be buying a DAYTONA anytime soon.

for effects i have been playing through a korg ax1000g (56 effects, stacks 6 at a time-does looping and just about anything else i can think of, built in volume/wah pedal, etc., etc.) for about 12 years, and using the onboard effects in my blue voodoo 6212.  at the moment i have a line 6 spider II 30 watt with the floorboard that i take to practices and the 6212 goes to gigs with the line 6 for back up.  when I'm messing around at the house i use my 12 year old 30 watt crate 112 with it's onboard effects.

I like to keep it simple. i have 9 guitars, but only 4 stay in regular rotation.

I have 4 pedals. A Dunlop Zakk Wylde wah, MXR Eddie Van Halen Phase 90, BOSS Noise Suppresor and a Digitech Brian May multi-effects. I LOVE the wah and phase. Don't use the Brian May one too much but it's fun to mess around with. The BOSS I'm still trying to figure out how to use  I'd suggest getting some pretty simple stuff. MXR makes great stuff!

BOSS DS-1 and Dunlop Cry Baby.

Ghoste

Too many stupid pedals laying around my place and even though I really only use a couple, none are for sale at this point.
There are a couple of wah pedals, one is a Vox and the other is one of those old Italian made Cry Baby's but I forget the brand.  An old ProCo Rat, an old MXR Phase 90, an old TS9 Tube Screamer, an old DOD Phaser, a newer Yamaha compressor, a Boss chorus, an Arion delay, a Keeley modded TS808 reissue.  There's a junky flanger in there someplace that I can't even recall the brand, a cheap EQ that I never use either.  There's some other junk too but those are the ones I can recall.
99% of the time I just go straight into the amp so why are they there?  I don't know but like I said, I'm keeping them now.

Oh...and I also have an ancient ZOOM 1010 multi effects processor. Never really used it that much...too much of a hassle to have to find an electrical outlet to plug it in.

I'm kinda like the Ghoste... have had tons of pedals over the years, but these days I don't really have any use for them. I do still use a couple of independent stomp boxes from time to time... an old Tube Screamer that I use as a gain stage sometimes, and a Boss Programmable EQ that I like to play around with from time to time.
Most of the time I run 2 independent amps in unison... The main signal is a clean straight line directly into a 2 channel, 40 watt tube amp feeding 12" & 15" drivers... and the background signal is run through a Digitech GNX-3000 to a 500 watt solid state amp connected to two 3-way drivers in stereo. So essentially... my tube amp does all of the work and produces 90% of what you hear, while the solid state side of the system is used to smoothly blend effects or tone changes into the background without adversely affecting the dynamic intensity or tone of the main signal.

If I'm plugged into an amp, it's via my Zoom 707 II - always.

Even if I just pick the FatClean setting, the tone is just that much better than straight in.
I've been goofing around with the big, crunchy medal sounds lately.

I just have a Peavey RAGE 158 for an Amp - that's more than enough for my basement. Heck, it doesn't get turned up to more than 4 or 5.

I'd say about 80% of my playing is either on one of my acoustics or even one of my electrics not plugged in.
I have a guitar hook on the wall in my office. I'll rotate the guitars to that hook and when the mood strikes or I have to sit and read a large document, I'll grab the guitar that's on the hook and noodle while I read.

i've been looking at visual sound pedals quite a bit...

http://www.visualsound.net/

great great sounds there...

however, the pedal scene is so expensive...i'm thinking i'm gonna swing my attention towards a nice multi effects pedal fro my electric, boss gt-6 or some like that...i'd love an m9 but..well...you wanna give me 300 bucks

but the first thing on my list right now is a pedal tuner and a nice pre for my acoustic...i was looking at the art tube mp...it'll be a great DI too...

There's tons of musicians selling their gear on Craigs' List, I am continually amazed at what's on there.

mauve66

good lord Brock, how do you walk around that room, i'd be knocking stuff over left and right

you guys are making me want to try to start playing again.  when i was about 15 i started playing a little, very little classical to appease my mother who wouldn't send me to an instructor for rocknroll.  that only lasted about 6 months but about 5 years ago i got one of those cheapy Silvertone electric guitars/amp package from the local music shop.  I haven't picked it up yet but i did get it so there is still hope.

the local cable station has some free programming stuff that gives lessons but when to find the time.  i would really like to get into blues slide guitar someday

You Tube is loaded with instructional stuff.
i think just noodling around is the cool thing about it though,..
i was never big on covers though i sure had to learn a bunch...
i allways enjoyed the way a tiny little cool riff or a simple noise could exponentally grow into an entire song like a mathematical equation when the initial properties were expounded upon, kinda' like fractals...
then, add in the game of making lyrics to fit the moods and spaces and a final edit and such,..
few things can be more expressive or satisfying,.. the business of the music industry is a whole nother matter unfortunately...  :-\
