That was a nice little trip down memory lane.  There is a similar appearing abandoned strip outside of Windsor too (Windsor Dragway) on the Canadian side across from Detroit.

I was out there with my Uncle a few years ago & we could not even see any Asphalt left on the track. The Track was all dirt & weeds with no trace of it. Was a couple of dilapitated buildings half standing. My Uncle was always there in the 60's. My Dad always took me to Detroit Dragway in early 70's. Still have some 8MM film of Detroit dragway but have not watched them in 30 years. Now wondering who is on them. Better take a look? LEON.

As a matter of fact one of our own (seldom seen) members does that and he has a series of vintage drag racing videos and he's from just outside of Detroit.  You might want to contact Onebadsuperbird and see if he's interested in converting that film to digital for you... and us.  :icon_smile_big:

High Impact

Im way to young to really know anything about Detroit Dragway,   But,  I found a 72 GTX buried deep in the woods in Northen Michigan and in the back seat were tropheys  (class winners)   from  Detriot Dragway.   I have since started collecting more items from that drag strip.    Alot of "big names"  have run there,   it must'a been quite the place!

Just as an FYI, Motor City Dragway and Detroit Dragway are two different places.  Both abandoned now and both FULL of some amazing history but also both sadly gone.  Everyone has a copy of the 71 Barracuda ad, "Those that do and those that really do"?

Yes, I know onebadsuperbird Papa's. The Film is down in Huntsville Alabama at my Mothers house. When (if) I go down there for Christmas I'll try to find those rolls of 8mm film & bring them back for Papa's to convert. Would be cool to see Muldowney & Kalitta on there, Maybe Roger Lindamood Color me Gone? Motown Missle? Detroit Dragway was at Sibley & Dix.  LEON.
