Guage and relay wiring

This is a long shot question but has anybody ever compared the wire used for guitar pickups to the fine wires used in a lot of our guages and relays?  I ask because when I was doing some of the dash repairs in my car I encountered a problem with finding a fine enough wire to do some of the repairs.  I was looking at one of my guitars this morning and started wondering about the wiring on the pickup and if it was the same.
